Compare DMV Permit Fees & Ages by State
Every state sets its own learner's permit fee, minimum age, and holding period before a road test. This table pulls the numbers from all 50 of CDL Grind's state guides into one sortable, searchable view so you can compare yours against any other state instantly.
| State ↑ | Capital | Min. permit age | Permit fee | Hold period | Links |

Figures reflect the same permit-fee, minimum-age, and holding-period data published on each state's individual CDL Grind guide. State legislatures change fees and age requirements from time to time — always confirm with your state's official DMV before applying.
How to read this table
Min. permit age is the youngest age at which a state will issue a learner's permit, in years and months. Permit fee is the standard fee charged for the learner's permit itself (separate states may add testing or licensing fees later). Hold period is the minimum time a new driver must hold the learner's permit before applying for a full or provisional license — some states set this in months, others in days, and a few have no fixed minimum.
